Orban: Ungarer knæler kun ‘before God, the homeland and their beloved when they propose marriage’

Been there. Done that,. Got the t-shirt.

Fra Irish Times – Hungarian prime minister says Irish players provoked fans in Budapest (10. juni 2021).

“Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has backed fans who booed the Republic of Ireland team for taking the knee before this week’s match in Budapest, accusing the visiting players of ‘provoking’ their hosts and failing to understand their culture.

Ireland’s manager Stephen Kenny described the booing before Tuesday’s game as ‘incomprehensible’, and the crowd’s reaction to the protest against racism has thrown a spotlight on Hungary as it prepares to host several Euro 2020 ties.

‘I am not in the least sympathetic to the kneeling – sport is about something else and there is no place on the field for that,’ Mr Orban declared on Thursday. …

We do not expect the Hungarian national team to get on their knees but to fight, to win and, if they fail, to die standing up,’ he declared, adding that Hungarian men kneel only ‘before God, the homeland and their beloved when they propose marriage.'”

Ryanair-chef: Lufthavnskontrollen bør fokusere på enlige muslimske mænd – ‘Who are the bombers?’

Fra Euronews – Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary criticised over Muslim men comments.

“The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has slammed Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary over comments he made about Muslim men.

O’Leary told the Times newspaper that men travelling with a family of children pose less of a security threat than single Muslim males.

He was quoted as saying: ‘Who are the bombers? They are going to be single males travelling on their own. If you are travelling with a family of kids, on you go; the chances you are going to blow them all up is zero.’

You can’t say stuff, because it’s racism, but it will generally be males of Muslim persuasion. Thirty years ago it was the Irish. If that is where the threat is coming from, deal with the threat.’

The MCB described the remarks as ‘racist and discriminatory’, and said they are “the very definition of Islamophobia”.

… Tell Mama, a charity that monitors hate incidents against Muslims, said O’Leary’s ‘flippant’ comments could harm Ryanair’s business.”

MSM problematiserer Salvini-gruppen: Ignorerer venstreorienteret EP-medlem, dømt for bombeterror

“Dansk Folkeparti kaster masken og går sammen med Europas ekstreme højre”, skrev David Rehling forleden i en ledende artikel i Information. Italienske Matteo Salvini er dårligt selskab, måtte man forstå.

Anderson is a convicted terrorist who served 13 years in prison for Irish Republican Army activities until she was released as a condition of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. First arrested when she was 18 for causing an explosion in a furniture store in Derry, she was convicted in 1986 for conspiring to cause explosions in England. Her co-defendent Patrick Magee was convicted of carrying out the Brighton hotel bombing that killed five people and nearly claimed the life of then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Anderson, who topped the vote in the 2014 European election in Northern Ireland, is seen by some as a symbol of reform and reconciliation, but she has never directly apologized for her role in the IRA’s armed conflict against the British state.” (Politico, 2018)

(Anders Vistisen, 16. april 2019)

Tullamore Dew hylder masseindvandring: “… the positive impact that diversity.. make to the world”

Single malt, naturligvis.

(‘No irish need apply’, Tullamore Dew-reklame, 2017)

“Inspired by this history, with the Beauty of Blend we are providing a poignant but playful reflection on the positive impact that diversity and social inclusion make to the world around us.”

Blend makes the world a more interesting, eclectic place. For generations, Ireland’s diaspora of 80 million people has built and blended around the world.

The United States has been a place of welcome and opportunity for many Irish people but there has also been evidence of prejudice and discrimination against the Irish. ‘No Irish Need Apply’ was a phrase that was added to job advertisements over a substantial period of United States history, most notably the middle of the 19th century.

… In this film, our hero Danny, for whom immigration and diversity are personally relevant, pauses from his work to reflect on the positive role immigrants have played in American society.”

Cathal Brugha, såret i ildkamp: “found… singing ‘God Save Ireland’ with his pistol still in his hands.”

“In 1899 Brugha joined the Gaelic League and changed his name from Charles Burgess to Cathal Brugha. He met his future wife, Kathleen Kingston, at an Irish class in Birr, County Offaly and they married in 1912. They had six children, five girls and one boy. Brugha became actively involved in the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) and in 1913 he became a lieutenant in the Irish Volunteers. He led a group of twenty Volunteers to receive the arms smuggled into Ireland in the Howth gun-running of 1914.

He was second-in-command at the South Dublin Union under Commandant Éamonn Ceannt in the Easter Rising of 1916. On the Thursday of Easter Week, being badly wounded, he was unable to leave when the retreat was ordered. Brugha, weak from loss of blood, continued to fire upon the enemy and was found by Eamonn Ceannt singing ‘God Save Ireland’ with his pistol still in his hands. He was initially not considered likely to survive. He recovered over the next year, but was left with a permanent limp. …

Brugha organised an amalgamation of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army into the Irish Republican Army (IRA). He proposed a Republican constitution at the 1917 Sinn Féin convention which was unanimously accepted. In October 1917 he became Chief of Staff of the Irish Republican Army and held that post until March 1919. …

Most of the anti-Treaty fighters under Oscar Traynor escaped from O’Connell Street when the buildings they were holding caught fire, leaving Brugha in command of a small rearguard. On 5 July, he ordered his men to surrender, but refused to do so himself. He then approached the Free State troops, brandishing a revolver. He sustained a bullet wound to the leg which ’severed a major artery causing him to bleed to death’. He died on 7 July 1922, eleven days before his 48th birthday.” (Wikipedia)

“Grief for the idiot people, Who with suicidal hand, Strive to bind the fetters closer…”

“I’ve been dreaming on the time when
to be English is not to be baneful
to be standing by the flag not feeling
shameful, racist or partial.”
(Morrissey, 2004; Youtube)

“A rush and a push and the land that
We stand on is ours
It has been before
So it shall be again”
(Morrissey, 1987; Youtube)

Steven Patrick Morrissey har irske aner (Irish blood english heart), og titlen ‘A rush and a push and the land is ours’ er en parafrase af et digt skrevet midt i 1800-tallet af den nationalistiske irske digter Spiranza, også kendt som Lady Wilde, mor til den mere berømte Oscar Wilde.

“… ‘Speranza’ promptly took charge of The Nation, and… produced an article headed Jacta Alea Est, which was printed in the number for July 29th, 1848, calling upon the people to rise in their might and die for Ireland. ‘Oh! for a hundred thousand muskets glittering brightly in the light of heaven,’ she cried, ‘and the monumental barricades stretching across each of our noble streets made desolate by England—circling round that doomed Castle, where the foreign tyrant has held his council of treason and iniquity against our people and our country for seven hundred years… One bold, one decisive move. One instant to take breath, and then a rising; a rush, a charge from north, south, east and west upon the English garrison, and the land is ours.‘” (Hesketh Pearson, 1946: Oscar Wilde, His Life and Wit)

Herunder et citat fra Speranzas ‘Have Ye Counted the Cost?’, der kan bruges i flere nationale kontekster, i 80’ernes England, i 10’ernes Danmark.

“Grief for the idiot people,
Who with suicidal hand,
Strive to bind the fetters closer,
On their prostrate, bleeding land.”

(Lady ‘Speranza’ Wilde 1821-1895)

“Oh, come out you black and tans”

“I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums do beat
And the loving English feet they tramped all over us,
And every night when me father’d come home tight
He’d invite the neighbors outside with this chorus:

Oh, come out you black and tans,
Come out and fight me like a man
Show your wives how you won medals down in Flanders
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away,
From the green and lovely lanes in Killashandra.

Come let me hear you tell
How you slammed the great Parnell,
When you fought them well and truly persecuted,
Where are the smears and jeers
That you bravely let us hear
When our heroes of sixteen were executed.

Oh, come out you black and tans…

Allen, Larkin, and O’Brien–
How you bravely called them swine!
Robert Emmett who you hung and drew and quartered!
High upon that scaffold high,
How you murdered Henry Joy!
And our Croppy Boys from Wexford you did slaughter!

Oh, come out you black and tans…

The day is coming fast
And the time is here at last,
When each yeoman will be cast aside before us,
And if there be a need
Sure my kids wil sing, “Godspeed!”
With a verse or two of Steven Beehan’s chorus.

Oh, come out you black and tans…”

“The most important thing is that the ratification process must continue in the other countries…” (Jean-Pierre Jouyet, fransk europaminister; The Guardian 14/6-08)

  • 14/6-08 Daily Telegraph – Charles Moore: If David Davis was itching to quit, Lisbon would have been a better cause.
  • “Before the Irish result, the European Commission President, José Manuel Barroso, said that there was “no Plan B” if the Irish voted no.

Some took this to mean that the treaty would not go ahead. This was not what Mr Barroso meant at all. As he in effect confirmed yesterday, he was saying: “We’ll stick to Plan A, however anyone votes.”

  • 14/6-08 Sunday Times (leder) – Contempt for democracy.

Fra RTE – Irish voters set to reject Lisbon Treaty.

It seems certain that Irish voters have rejected the Lisbon Treaty.

official results are only starting to come in, tallies of votes have shown a very strong No vote right across the country.

Waterford was the first constituency to declare an official result – and it was unequivocal, rejecting Lisbon by 54-46, while Sligo-North Letrim voted no by 57-43. Tipperary South also voted No, by 53-46.

In Waterford and Sligo-North Leitrim, the No vote was higher than was recorded in the first Nice Referendum, and if as seems likely it is followed in other parts of the country, the Lisbon Treaty looks certain to be defeated.”
